Healing Arts Overview
Professionally trained faculty help students develop character, inner strength, and a well trained body through healing arts disciplines.
Yoga is the Sanskrit word meaning “union.” It is an ancient philosophical, artistic, and scientific practice that originated in India approximately 5,000 years ago. Yoga is for the balance and harmonization of the body, mind, and spirit. The physical aspects of yoga are practiced to put one’s body in the optimal condition for meditation, as well as to keep healthy balance over all.
Pilates focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles. Pilates is an important adjunct to professional sports training, physical rehabilitation of all kinds and widely embraced among dancers for years.
