Cygnus Contemporary Dance Company
The Cygnus Contemporary Dance Company is primarily a youth dance company able to perform all disciplines of dance. Open auditions are held each September and January for all Cygnus sponsored full length ballets and modern dance performances. Full length ballets include: Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Giselle with orginals such as Snow White, The Ice Maiden, the Firebird and Hansel and Gretel. Guest Artists from the Pennsylvania Ballet, Buffalo Inner City Ballet and students who major in dance from various college dance programs such as the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, New York University, La Roche College, and Montclaire University often support the cast in leading roles.
Commitment to CCDC requires a minimum of a daily ballet class and supplimental classes in modern, jazz and tap dance. Additional rehearsals and master classes occur throughout the year. The CCDC affords additional performing venues, experiences, and a full production Holiday production of Santa and His Elves. The youth company participates and performs various times a year thoughout the area for: the Philadephia Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Shore Mall, Boscovs, the Hamilton Mall, Assisted Living complexes, the Egg Harbor Township School district in lecture demonstrations, and the EHT Renassaince program. CCDC worked numerous times performing in world premier ballets such as The Elves and the Shoemaker and the Pied Piper for the Ocean City Pops Orchestra, the Margate Little Theatre in Follies as well as invited original performance of Faust for the Metropolitan Ballet, New York City under the orchestra direction of Maestro Anton Coppola.
